WiX project

May 21, 2008 at 3:48 AM
I'm installing Votive (3.0 Beta), which is the VS integration package for WiX. Should I add the wix project right to the main solution or have a seperate solution? The downside to this would be that everyone would have to have votive installed for the solution to fully load correctly.

Any objections? Here is the URL btw:

Hmmm, actually the 3.0 doesn't seem to work in VS 2008. So I suppose we'll have to stick with 2.0 for now.

Ok well, 2.0 doesn't work in VS2008 either but the latest weekly build release does here is that link:

You may want to check out the omea project that was open sourced by JetBrains a few months ago, it was a commercial project and is now GPL I believe, it is a great example of how to set up automated build of WiX seperate from your main solution.

I looked it up but didn't seem to find any source code repositories, just installer downloads.

I'm to the point where I need to have the zip files for the project items and projects... it doesn't appear that those zip files are part of the BooLangStudio project build. In the IronPython project you apply an ZipItem / ZipProject BuilAction to these files and it will automatically zip them up and deploy them to VS for experimental mode. We can also then include these zip files in our installer too. Do you guys object to me adding these files to the main plugin project at all?

Also, I've made some place holder "banner" images for this installer and I'm thinking of submitting them to the boo group to see if anyone can give us the preferred artwork.
